We are eager to resume Storm hoops this year! With over fifty boys and girls basketball players in the Storm program annually prior to 2022, excitement levels are high to play basketball again! And it shows as we currently expect to have 40+ players in the program for our Spring camp!
Looking forward, with the influx of new boys and girls players this season, we plan on resuming our fundamentals-based approach during our practice sessions and have intrasquad games provided we have enough boys/girls at the respective age and gender levels.
Our tots did tremendous in their last full season, with some of them able to dribble two balls at once, and some of them making shots on the regulation, 10' baskets by the end of the Storm season. Along with our 9-12 year old boys and girls, they represent the next generation of Storm players. It's very exciting!
Greg Lucas - Co-founder, current head coach and supervisor of all age groups and the Rio Storm program.
Our mission includes teaching the youths of Rio Vista the fundamentals of basketball and with that, build in them an appreciation and love of the game. We also preach giving back to the community, and that means community service. Our players aren't just members of a program, they are members of our community. The Storm program is reserved exclusively for kids with direct Rio Vista ties and/or students of the RDUSD.
Due to our policy of inclusion, we work with local organizations and individuals to raise money, enabling the Storm program to bring sports and hope to underserved children in our home town. Our coaching and teaching doesn't stop at the boundaries of the basketball court.

All of the players did great in our first two weeks of camp! We love the enthusiasm and look forward to the final week of camp!
Caden Hartman - Caden is one of our two-sport athletes, playing both baseball and basketball this Spring. Caden has a great attitude and it shows in our basketball drills. He is making more and more baskets every practice in our team shooting contests. He is a great addition to the program!
Damian Carpenter - We are glad Damian joined the program! He is doing great in all of the drills, dribbling forward and backwards, and hitting baskets on 10" regulation rims. Damian is very coachable and is a leader among the tots players.
June Vega - June is one of the youngest girls in the camp. But she is a mighty mite! June is consistently making baskets on the regulation hoops, and is also learning to dribble forwards and backwards. She has also taken part in our dribbling relay races and has acquitted herself well, running the leadoff leg in most of the races. She has been a joy to work with!
Joyce Glee Padilla - Joyce Glee is another one of our tots girls players. She has also led off some of our dribbling relay races, and is learning to dribble with either hand. Despite her size, she is also making buckets on 10' regulation hoops. She and June took turns making basket after basket after one of last week's practices, with each logging over 10 buckets each! Joyce Glee always has a big smile and incredibly positive attitude!
Jonathan Bailey - Jonathan is another one of our two-sport athletes, juggling both baseball and basketball practices each week. Jonathan is very athletic, and actually made a three-pointer at one of last week's practices! He also has a great attitude and is eminently coachable. We look forward to Jonathan being a Storm player for the foreseeable future.
