After missing the last two Spring/Summer seasons due to the Corona virus shutdowns, we are eager to resume Storm hoops this year! With over fifty boys and girls basketball players in the Storm program annually prior to 2020, excitement levels were high to play basketball again!
And it shows as we currently have 65+ players in the program and have been practicing since early April.
Looking forward, with the influx of new boys and girls players this season, we plan on resuming tournament play in 2022 provided we have enough boys/girls at the respective age and gender levels.
Our tots did tremendous in their last full season as well, with some of them able to dribble two balls at once, and some of them making shots on the regulation, 10' baskets by the end of the Storm season. Along with our 9-14 year old boys and girls, they represent the next generation of Storm players. It's very exciting!
Greg Lucas - Co-founder, current HC of 10-17 year old boys, HC of teenage girls squad and supervisor of tots program
Ben Sisneros - AC of multiple-level boys and girls squads
Marshall Mastenbroek - AC of multiple-level boys and girls squads
Robert Songey - AC of multiple-level boys and girls squads
Kimmy Guggemos - AC of multiple-level boys and girls squads
All of our coaches are AAU-certified and longtime Rio Vista-area residents with heavy ties to the community and its' youths. Some have multiple years experience coaching and/or playing in the Storm program and some have added experience coaching multiple sports at various schools in the RDUSD, including Rio Vista HS and Riverview MS, in addition to the local AYSO soccer program.
Our mission includes teaching the youths of Rio Vista the fundamentals of basketball and with that, build in them an appreciation and love of the game. We also preach giving back to the community, and that means community service. Our players aren't just members of a program, they are members of our community. The Storm program is reserved exclusively for kids with direct Rio Vista ties and/or students of the RDUSD.
Due to our policy of inclusion, we work with local organizations and individuals to raise money, enabling the Storm program to bring sports and hope to underserved children in our home town. Our coaching and teaching doesn't stop at the boundaries of the basketball court.
Austin Moser - Austin has been practicing multiple times per week with the boys and girls. He has a great attitude, has improved his dribbling and passing, and was splashing shots from all over the gym last week! A seventh-grader, Austin has been a leader of the middle school group and we look forward to him playing for the Panthers and S

He has a great attitude, has improved his dribbling and passing, and was splashing shots from all over the gym last week! A seventh-grader, Austin has been a leader of the middle school group and we look forward to him playing for the Panthers and Storm in the future!
Marcus Fabriquez - Marcus is another Storm player who has been doing double and triple duty when it comes to practices. He has been hitting three-pointers in our shooting contests and has displayed great handles in our dribbling drills and contests as well. He always plays with a smile on his face and it is appreciated!
Evie Bloesch - Evie joined the Storm late after not playing for the Panthers this season, but she has been a great addition to the program. She has been helping with the tots and has also been improving her game while playing with her fellow middle school teammates. She is dribbling and passing well and is making more shots every practice. We hope she sticks with it now that she has the basketball bug! She could be a future impact Storm, Panther and Rams player!
Isaias Mendoza - Isaias is one of our tots and he has improved sufficiently to shoot hoops at our regulation 10' baskets. Only a second-grader, Isaias has actually joined in some of the Fireman games played by the middle school Storm players, and he has held his own! It is quite a sight to see him sprinting down the court with players almost twice his age, but he is a trooper! He will also play for the Panthers, Rams and
Storm in the future, but first for the Whales at White School!
The Gongs - Frederick, Adam and Jeremy are veteran Storm players, having played in the program prior to the pandemic. We are glad that they all rejoined the program! Frederick is the middle schooler, while
Adam and Jeremy represent White School. What they all have in common is their positive attitude and coachability. And they're getting better at hoops too! All of them are displaying improved skills, passing, dribbling and shooting with confidence. They are all making free throws in our end-of-practice shooting drill, and also playing well in our daily Fireman games. Way to go Gong brothers!
